Leith Hill

Sounds like this was a pretty good walk. Weather was perfect, pub was excellent & company was delightful
Travel - By train, out on the 09.25 from Victoria, arriving Holmwood 10.29; and back on the 17.28, arriving Victoria 18.32. By car, the station is just off the A24, four miles south of Dorking and with parking on the bridge over the railway.
Route - a.m. Westwards through Wealden woods and fields to Forest Green.
p.m. - Northwards, with a climb of around 650 ft up through the woods of the Greensand escarpment and then eastwards, more gently, along to the top of Leith Hill, the highest point in South-east England. The 18th century Gothic tower, bringing the height to just over 1,000 ft, will be open offering tea and snacks and potentially magnificent views of 13 counties. (National Trust members should bring their cards for the tower.) We then continue eastwards down through the woods to Coldharbour and on down back to Holmwood. (As with the ascent, the descent is long and quite steep in places.)
Lunch - The Parrot at Forest Green, very much a pub restaurant with an extensive menu but with ‘Light Bites’.
this walk would not be possible by train on a sunday
