Drivers can head west on the M4 or M40, join the M25 clockwise and take the A41 turn-off
towards Aylesbury and Hemel Hempstead. Ignore the turn off marked Berkhamsted, go on to the next turn off marked Chesham follow the A416 into Berkhamsted and go directly down Kings Road to the station. Street parking should be possible without fees but there is a station car park
This is a LWG favourite, a circular walk over glorious Berkhamsted Common. The route takes us along the canal, now called again by the locals the Grand Junction. Spot the memorial bridge ten minutes along the towpath. We leave the eastern side of Berko and turn sharp left into the hills, a bit of a puff and join the Common. The route takes us past Frithsden Copse, the edge of the Ashridge House park and finally around the fringes of Northchuch Common back to the station, with Berkhamsted Castle to the left on the final stretch.
There is so much uncertainty at the pubs where we have been in the past, in Potten End and Frithsden, that there will be another picnic, at a spot near Ashridge. Social distancing rules will apply.
